1221 5 year Scholarship to East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Orphans

Approx. 20 million yen were raised by donations from partners and staffs and from a certain part of revenue of Sendai Office in 2012 as the first year.

December 21, 2011 – Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC (DTTL Japan) and its group companies (Tohmatsu Group) have decided to offer the scholarship to children who lost their parents in East Japan Giant Earthquake and Tsunami for 5 years beginning from January 2012.

Having established the foundation of “Scholarship Fundraising for the East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami orphans”, nearly 500 individuals, as of Dec. 2011, from the Tohmatsu Group signed up for the monthly based donation with 5 year commitment to the fundraising (from 2012 to 2016). The total amount is estimated to reach over 10 million yen annually.

CSR Promotion Office will continue this effort to raise more funds with further promotional announcement of this activity to each individual of Tohmatsu Group.
In addition, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC decided to donate the amount that is equivalent to a certain percentage of the previous year’s revenue of Sendai Office, which provides community-based business in the damaged areas. They have committed the donation over the next 5 years.
The total of approx. 20 million yen (donation from Sendai Office and the funds raised from the individuals in Tohmatsu Group),will be distributed to Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima prefectures where they provide a scholarship to the orphans in their prefectures.

The Tohmatsu Group explored ways to support the damages areas. The first move was the fundraising right after the disaster for a quick recovery of the damages and immediate survival needs. After several research and discussions, the most suitable support by Tohmatsu appeared to be something that relates to education. The core of professional service firm is knowledge and people. Education plays a critical role in developing knowledge and people. The long term finical support is expected to provide educational opportunities to the Earthquake and Tsunami orphans who once were at risk of losing the opportunities by the loss of their parents.

Additionally, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu LLC donated 200 used PCs to the damaged areas on 15 December.
